This is a first ride on Yamaha YZF r3 sports in 2019 a matte black at least the gas tanks fairings are matte. Most of it is matte except this front piece right here. Let’s do a little startup give it a go so the first thing when I drove this home yesterday is to put maybe 5 miles on this. I think it has 7 miles total on it the first thing I’ve noticed is how lite this thing is like talking about if I had mid 300s.
The second thing I did buy this from my wife this does feel super small compared to my s1000 which that’s probably an obvious statement. I’ve never been on a 300 Super Sport Yamaha YZF R3 style bike.
I started on a cb500f which is a cool bike isn’t really exciting but this thing already seems to be more exciting. Keep that in mind it’s a 300 Supersport it’s just a small engine version of an r6. R1 is super light but I don’t feel like I’m having to kill it to go anywhere. I mean I’m 210 pounds and I’m not having trouble I mean my wife is gonna probably be able to go a lot faster on this than me.
See right there screen is pretty cool I like this digital and not analog. It’s has a nice touch riding position not aggressive at all compared to an r6. I’m not really leaned over at all it seems like a really good just in my first opinion. A really good commuter bike that you can bullets neck and not feel like it’s gonna kill you. That’s just my first impression so let’s see I’m a bit like the 5k range and fourth gear.
You give it gas and it’s going to go it’s just not going to do the same thing. It doesn’t rip your arms off and it never will. That’s not what this bike was meant for keeping in mind but yeah I’m actually thoroughly impressed by the feel in the handling. It wants to go down into eternity this is supersport by getting a small engine before. Let’s go to look down here at the controls so standard horn super loud left and right turn signal.
We push it into this engage your brights are trigger right up here just like last 1,000 and then hazards are right here on the right. It’s cool this is a fun little bike I mean being a more experienced rider. I mean I’m gonna learn more towards a 600 Supersport or a leader bike but just to get on something and go. I don’t think you can really beat something like this I mean it just no issues going today it is gorgeous outside in beautiful Raleigh North Carolina.
It’s not your normal SportBike fuel-economy I have my bike is way on down there but yeah I would love and I did compare this when we were initially looking. I was comparing it to a possibly a cb500 are for her which is a much bigger bike keep in mind it’s a bigger cc engine but it doesn’t rev. The top speed is actually lower in some cases so it just doesn’t have an exciting high-end process but choosing this bike is having an exciting eye range.
I’m more torquey low-end they could get somebody into trouble and this seems more practical peers are really big. We go right here 75 years of this guy’s got ponytail going on red ponytail. I’m gonna need to get one of them as far as modifications I’m probably gonna have to lower this for her because she’s five two. I’m just not probably gonna be able to ride it because I literally feel like I’m sitting on a tricycle compared to my XR probably gonna put some sort of aftermarket exhaust. They even turn this into a project bike I mean there’s a lot of stuff you can do with these bikes new for 2019 you got inverted Forks which is a cool feature.
You usually don’t see that in a bike where I got this thing for less than five grand brand new you. Just don’t see that so that’s a cool option for sure this is the first year that’s happened. Actually, the styling is different as well I’ll make sure to get some cool shots of it once I get off later. You see my seating position I’m not really geared out very well today my kneecaps are going to be destroyed if I lay this down.
My legs are 90 degrees down almost I mean it’s super-low for me the seat on this. It is around 31 inches the only other bikes that are close to the seat height stock are the cb500 R and the Triumph Street Triple. You gotta hit the corner with it you can’t kill myself because these are brand new tires.
My first experience almost dying on this bike all right so I’m up at 70 miles per hour and sixth gear. I’m at 7k I’ve got like a lot more in the tank. For you guys wondering about whether this thing has enough off to just cruise around. I mean 6 7 K going 70 miles per hour this person better roll down their window and apologize to me for almost running me off the road.
I had to look for the horn real quick just because I had no idea where it was. It was in a different spot on the thumb grip on the bottom on my bike. She’s not even pulling up here because she doesn’t want to look at me. Pretty smooth so that was one to six quick shifted below 6k just kind of regular driving experience.
I would think I need to start wearing this camera everywhere – so if someone runs me off the road or kills me I’ll have footage. Just keeping in mind that you saw how that person or hopefully I got some good footage of that person. Literally not even looking and coming over on me possibly could be something I could fix.
Having this bike a little bit louder with just to slip on I don’t think it’s worth investing in $1000 full exhaust into a $5,000 bike that doesn’t make much sense to me. Just make it a little bit throaty or could be beneficial that could happen on my bike too. I got beat off the road like no one’s business on that thing. I think it was a combination of the ergonomics of the bike.
I don’t know the line I mean it’s a naked bike it’s gonna be across the board. The bike combination of a naked bike with a super lightweight it was a cool beginner bike for me. I did long trips on it on the highway and it was not fun. This bike gets a longer windshield which is cool if I tucked in I would literally break my back. My wife will probably be fine with the stock windshield I would say I get some sort of bigger windscreen if you’re looking towards this there’s a trike. This is a really good beginner bike it could be a second commuter bike for somebody that had something much larger in chin. They just don’t want to pull out and drive it in the city with we’re traffic.
There’s not much else to say about this thing you can wring its back. It’s not gonna kill you which is an awesome thing for a new rider. At the same time, everyone doesn’t have to get their arms ripped off but you still get that feeling that I’m on a sportbike. It’s just not going to kill me it can’t kill me if I’m stupid but you know what I mean the front wheels not gonna pop up our wheelie on this thing.
I’ll be a cool thing so I’ll pop back in on my ride home just to kind of get a feel for maybe doing a little bit more than I did. I’m just kind of getting the first impression on this thing again I have no expertise at all. Overall you’re gonna need more of a stopping distance with this bike.
