Hi this is Kelly with ultimate motorcycling I’m here in Palomar Mountain with Yamaha checking out the 2019 Yamaha YZF r3 motobike. The r3 is really the gateway bike to bring new riders into Yamahas Supersport family. So eventually maybe they’ll move up to an R 6 or an r1. The Yamaha YZF R3 is really a great beginner bike.

Yamaha has made some updates for 2019. First off what’s not new for 2019 is the price its still a great same engine. The engines absolutely great let me tell you about that. First is the r3 is a 321 CC parallel twin it has fuel injection double overhead cam four valves per cylinder. It’s a high revving really sporty ride however what’s really nice about the bike for beginning riders is that in the lower rpm range its docile. It’s a friendly motor shouldn’t spook new riders up in the higher rpm range.

You’re really willing to twist that throttle and I’m talking up into eight nine ten thousand rpm. You can have a really aggressive sporty ride. It has a lot of fun the suspension has been changed for 2019. We have inverted forks up front and settings in the back have been changed. These are to improve the handling of the bike when you’re riding especially most aggressively not so much dive in the front. When you brake really hard and if you’re accelerating hard out of a turn it’s not gonna wallow in the back really improves the ride.

The suspension in general is really dialed quite nicely for this bike. There aren’t any adjustments to the suspension in the front. You can’t do anything with the inverted fork but it works really pretty well in the back. You have spring preload and that’s the only adjustability but Yamaha really did dial. This is the right for the average rider in most road conditions. There is also been some changes to the tanks a little bit lower and a little bit wider up high. I really like this change it allows you to really hook your knees underneath. When you’re riding aggressively it gives you a really secure feeling. This is a good change the clip ons have also been lowered and the point of this is to really pull the rider in closer to the bike.

If you’re riding really aggressively and hard you may even want to tuck down into this redesign windscreen. That’s nice and that works you have the passenger pillion here which you can push up against. If you really want to tuck into that racing position that’s great but for a lot of the use of this bike. It’ll be commuting and there’s enough room in this seat to push back and sit up. You don’t have to be your weight down there on your wrists so it’s actually a really comfortable bike in either position. There’s also a change to the front cowling of the bike and it’s really cool.

This new design over here really references the yzr m1 so you’ve got a little bit of MotoGP look. It is very cool-looking they’re also have LED headlights and taillights on the bike giving it a more modern look. What’s it like to ride the 2019 YZF r3 this is a really fun bike it’s great for beginners it’s friendly. As I said before the power down in the lower rpm is friendly shouldn’t spooka new rider.

There’s a 298 millimeter disc up front a 220 here in the rear brakes on the r3 are well matched for the power on this bike. First of all the bikes not that heavy it’s only 368 pounds and for new riders you don’t want a grabby front brake. This does get the job done more aggressive riders somebody wants to really push it to the limits and break hard. You may find it slightly soft but I think the Yamaha made a good choice here.

It’s done well seat height on the bike is thirty point seven inches that keeps it low enough for a real of wide variety of riders. You can get flat-footed that’s really important for confidence. When you’re starting out handling on the bike is really awesome. It’s very nimble it’s very agile it’s not too quick handling but it’s quick enough it doesn’t take much your body weight to change directions. Yamaha did a great job with their 2019 YZF r3. Really nice spike we like the updates stay tuned we’ll have a full review coming up in a few days
