This is the lovely 2017 Yamaha YZF R1 so if you stick around and stay tuned for the next few minutes I’ll give you my initial impressions review of this amazing sports bike Yamaha YZF R1. I find myself behind the white van that is somewhat spoiling my fun market. I think I turned off brilliant no indicators of course but I guess is going right he is okay. The old one then modern-day litre sports bikes are just weapons I haven’t actually got it out of second gear.

I can’t wait to get it on some slightly faster Rosa see what she can do but what’s not waiting to get there is worth it. The practical aspects in a sitting position really comfortable for a sports bike I wrote the dealers on my Panigale it’s a great comparison. I am used to riding the Panigale but this actually feels a little bit more comfortable to me. It feels a little bit more of a bigger bike and I think on IV lent a little longer Ford bit more of a reach to the hands of the bar. Possibly a little wider apart, of course, a very sporty riding position but comfy. I just coming into the limited or normal speed limit zone takes no time at all to quickly get up to the speed limit amazing this bike has the four cylinders in-line engine slightly canted forward in the frame.

I guess just for locating it the sounds amazing so that’s just several up there’s a car behind me. I still want to slow right down and try again it sounds absolutely beautiful. This normal Road speeds really quiet at home there’s no judder or jerkiness there’s no fuzziness. They’re really quite comfortable though the seat itself hasn’t got a lot of padding it doesn’t feel uncomfortable. Obviously, it is not a touring bike you could do a few hundred miles a day and you wouldn’t be in too much distress. I think the suspension isn’t stupidly hard it is a sports bike so you know you can feel what the road is doing. It’s not filling jarring head rattling hard it’s got these ginormous mirrors which look a bit ugly.

Actually to be fair and I am looking quite a bit at my elbows you have to tuck your elbow in and look round and then you can see behind you. The mirrors don’t work particularly, let’s face the sports bike based on the mirrors it’s got a lovely quick shifter. The thing just flies when you open the throttle as you’d expect it’s one of those BOTS you know sneeze and you’re doing 100 miles an hour. This amazing machine on the track I think that these litre sports aren’t smart they’re a bit too much for the road. I can’t trust myself to be disciplined on the throttle if you love a highly disciplined nature you can ride within the speed limits then you’re gonna love this bike.

The bikes fitted with the excellent full-color TFT display. I hope you can the same as her on the MT 10sp that I wrote recently but works in a very similar way. Although don’t you see on the right-hand side there this little gauge it’s actually a G meter. Watch as I accelerate just on this side here it just showed that I had forward momentum they’ll come into 40th snow there and then you may notice that as I braked it showed you that there was negative G. Not really sure of the practicality of it but it’s a great fun bit of kit and if you’ve got the datalogger you can record that and then after the journey analyze what you did. I think it’s always better to do after the journey I’d fixate on rather on the road which it the works really lovely and slick it’s got oddly.

It’s got two settings on the quick shifter one and two which I don’t know but I suspect it just changes the ignition. Cut out the timing so if you’re on the track you can have it on the faster timing so that you’ll potentially get faster trap times. If you’re on the road you can have it a bit more lazy so you don’t have to be quite so precise with your gear changes give nothing on. I’m just going to check the brake the front brakes were absolutely fine. Let’s try the back door mostly the back squat reasonable as well it is good but they’re not Brembo m50 that got the big old calipers on it which are absolutely fine.

They don’t make your eyeballs bulge like the Brembos D it’s interesting to note. I’m on a 60 mile an hour road I’m doing 16 I’m only in second that it feels perfect handling is sublime you just literally thinking about where I want the bike to go. I know it’s a cliche but it just goes there yes perfectly easy to write. Actually at these normal speeds doesn’t complain at all nice and colorful tracks the corners really quite stable well the looks of it the clutch lever is non-adjustable.

As the brake lever is adjustable for span and I’m pleased to see on the r-1 that have stuck with proper switchgear. Well I call proper switchgear you know real chunky things that you can feel the tactile nature when you pressed them. They’re not like these modern-day printed circuit board contacts. which is that so many bikes have. You just feel a bit rubbish being a four-cylinder machine the bike itself is quite wide which I quite like. Actually cuz it means you can get your legs purchasing on the sides bit gives you a bit more feeling of control on the bike.

You can sort of push the bike around with your legs that makes sense. Like all the current wave of modern sports bike this one is absolutely laden with electronic aids. It’s so configurable on here it’s got like five riding modes. This bike traction control settings even the quick shifter as the sides got a couple of settings. I won’t attempt to go through the electronics package setzer video. It’s just the engine sounds amazing through the standard exhaust. It’s got a lovely rafter as smooth as you like in that fast bike. Let’s get back to a reasonable speed it’s got a great little feature on the rev counter. Where when you’re underneath the optimal power band the rev counter is black.

It is at the moment I’m in second doing 38 when you’re in the optimal band a pump it faster turn green. A little bit too fast for a second and then if you go out the top that it turns yellow. You can just see that in the corner of your eye which is quite nice. You don’t have to be looking at the dash as you’re riding along. I just love the fact that I can’t be in the optimal power band and be outside of second at a reasonable speed. These bots are so performance if you’re a trapped a fan. This thing will be an absolute weapon I have to say compared to my panigale. It’s so comfy stick the rucksack on and sling companions over the back up you could tour the Alps. This box fitted with the backs sports clothes that feel great. It depends on which batch the machines were made. As for the tires it comes with all of a sporty sticky nature.

I remember rightly just up here it’s a perfect spot to slow down stop and there do a little walk around to the bike. Again white bear man has no indicators pays a lot of money for his van it sadly didn’t go for the working indicators option whereas on. The r-1 the indicators work a treat it’s so light and agile on the terms for a right that feels like it’s quite big in terms of its geometry. Let’s come in here show you around the bike alright where’s the sunshine well it’s great to look when you apply.

Just noticed in the data get NICs to the G meter and you apply the brake it shows you how hard you’re applying it. I love that sort of thing while hoot right there it’s fine neutral stand is easy to find great stuff. I was very impressed with the way Yamaha do their paint finishes there will seem to be particularly lustrous and this standard r1 it just looks lovely. This blue we just felt BL, by the way, let’s get the other camera out and we’ll do walk around okay. Let’s talk through the spec this fabulous looking machine just let me show you the front because I think this is the top two best-looking sports box you can currently buy when it first came out.

I was a little unsure of the looks but it’s very much grown on me and I think this is second only to the Panigale in terms of attractiveness. I just think the thing looks to mean I love what they’ve done with the front end. The lights I’m sure you’ve seen these but amazing LED running lights and just by looking at the front end that kinda makes it look like a MotoGP bike. It was launched a couple of years back it was very much what this bike was all about. As a fact, that’s derived from the no GP machine and even, I think it was Valentino Rossi at the time launched it anyway.

The engine is nine nine eight cc four-cylinder parallel engine it’s their cross plane derived from the m1 MotoGP bike as I mentioned this is the one they call the CP 4. You can tell that because it’s stamped on the case and you can see that it’s just sort canted forward a little bit it fits in the frame. In terms of power Yamaha’s has it put out 200 PS which I checked in the old money. I don’t know why they coat PS these days. The  197 brake horsepower so 250 HP is near as it at thirteen thousand five hundred RPM talk 112 point four newton meters at the eleven thousand five hundred its weight 199 kilograms. It’s pretty much on the 1 horsepower per kilogram you know golden rules so really powerful.

The seat height sounds high eight five millimetres but actually my no short got five right I can get my feet pretty much flat on the ground. In terms of the seat height and the ride nothing difficult about riding it so now the wet one hundred and ninety-nine kilograms which might go to explain some of that is a light bike. The fuel capacity 17 liters in this lovely tank. If you look at it again you can see close up they paint quality on your house is just so so lustrous these days. They really do a good job at the finish on these I love it you jet trucks package. It’s got a six-axis I am you inertia the movement the unit organs or motion unit exactly what-what the bike is doing in all axes at all times.

That allow things like banking sensitive traction control slide control front lift control launch control banking sensitive abs and all that malarkey. As I say there’s a video or two just in the way that all works but come and show you some of the switchgear. I mentioned earlier but it’s a proper switch gear here you can feel when you’ve activated it which I love better in the PCB stuff. It’s got a little whiz wheel again which I love to select the various mode parameters if you press it and whiz it. That just works you can see the suspension KYB on the Front’s big old honking great things. The Yamaha brakes the big four port callipers the work okay but personally or not to see some Brembo m50 s but this is the quotes base spec bike okay.

What else to say about exhaust titanium is standard it doesn’t look too bad on this side. If you look at the other side we don’t get the exhaust you just get the Euro 4 catalytic converter type. Pretty ugly on this side which is a bit of a shame it sounds great though costs on the road cord. The Yamaha website from 15 $so similar sort of cops to see BMW s1000rr on the fire blade loads of accessories you can buy for it. I looked on the website and there are 49 listed on there so you can very much make your own. I think that’s about it for a year for the walk-around I’ll be looking bass rides let’s get back on try some more. It feels a lot bigger than my Panigale when you get on it.

Although when you stood next to it, it doesn’t look big at all doesn’t feel big when you’re riding. Your legs are well tucked up when you’re on board it’s a bit like you’re riding a racehorse or something. I’m just going to go slightly further down the road because I know there’s a road down here that I really like.  It turns nice so we can try the handling out I’m not a fan one of those bites. There’s going to be nothing that you can’t overtake swiftly which actually is a safety aspect. I think it’s something that is good about these leaflets sports bikes on the road. You can just knit by stuff quickly and get out of the danger zone. I look at the sky this is just my call a classic British summer sky and fluffy white flowers lovely temperature days. Today’s ideal for riding it’s about 17-18 degrees centigrade and lovely favorite road and put just about to go down in front of me.

There very few opportunities cleaver overtaking it here we go the lovely smooth surface and these nice bends if you get it clear it’s a lovely little road. I had a blast down but stop you on something Karla kills that unity it’s pretty much. The only opportunity for a bit to overtake so there had to be done so stable in the corners. It really does say look after you this bike confidence-inspiring is you can lean her right over now. The tires getting nice and warm thought another one there’s any one thing for it. I’ll turn around and come back down the same Road exercise the streamer is straight to ride at the speed limit. This road is asking to be ridden hard but I’m about to lose my license or anything worse beautiful day. This bike you could absolutely ride all day or I could resist now I’ve got the anti-wheelie turned on but the front wheel went decidedly light there. I gave it a little handful in second that’s the end of my fun yeah lovely bike actually absolute weapon on the track but on the road a joy to ride. As well you just got to be really conservative and I think to forget about ever using fourth fifth or sixth gear.

It’s a bit like a TARDIS it’s massive if you’ve not been in there and you’re in the whole Wycombe area have a look on it they sell parts. They got a massive range of accessories as well worth checking out. The moment I’m in the mode which is the sort of falls out mode and I’m in power too can you see that I can change only if I press the mode button. I can go to one by moving the wheel I think the power one now is in a mode which is the most aggressive riding mode that the bike has to offer.

Now the tires about a chance to warm up and see what that’s like the throttle response are already suitably more sensitive to slow down. They make a huge difference those settings I mean power one now in mode a and is just open up another level of B stitch on the bike you’re gonna be on the track. That’s what you already did luckily I’ve got a lot lovely road through the trees to come before I get the bike back so I’m going to enjoy riding up. There goes the 30 zone what a great machine it’s all drama and action then you back down to model speeds love it. We come up to one of my favorite all local sections a road now this holds the line on these corners beautifully.

Phil is really stable for such a flickable bike it really does feel nice in the corners you’re not having to fight it round it doesn’t feel like you’re gonna lose you’re nine.  I’ve been really treated to them today Oh Abby’s going away on going brilliant what van sells that’s what you want to be in like a portrait read it well. The absolutely phenomenal machine really beautiful to ride comfortable performance. Sweet smooth love it so my summary then the r-1 we’ve already got a flavor or a big beautiful bike. These it can’t batch of liter sports bikes are just amazing weapons they’re fast powerful precise handling is superb. This is no different I love the color TFT screen it may be that the interface a little bit clunky to use. Selecting the parameters and change them it took a bit of doom but I’m sure that’s just familiarity and you’d get the hang of that the TFT L. The handling and this is beautiful comfort wise it’s really nice it’s got so much pair. It is untrue and also up for me I think as much with your heart possibly more with your heart than your head. This one just looks nice so for me this is towards the top of the current crop. Really liked it the only thing that I can find I don’t like about it is the mirrors which not only look a bit super chunky but actually I’m looking at my elbows all the time.
