Today I’m riding this Suzuki V-strom 1000 I rode the little brother of this bike the 650 about a month ago. Lots of people said I’m gonna ride the thousand cc version so your wish is my command. Stay tuned for the next few minutes I’ll give you my first impressions review of the Suzuki V-strom 1000 motorcycle. The first thing I notice about the thousand cc bike is that it’s just very familiar having ridden the 650. It looked much the same from the cockpit this one is in the same yellow color it looks absolutely stupendous. I think particularly on a sunny day like today it’s got a groovy yellow seat as well which I’ll show you in a minute. I do walk around let’s just see if there’s an opportunity the beauty of the thousand cc bike.
It has got that bit more grunt than the 650 so you can do things like that. My opinion but you can quickly overtake cars if you want to so the extra bit of power. The extremely comfy bike actually feels a little bit hard. I guess to your buttcheeks but it’s nice and wide and it’s just got the feeling of it. You know you could ride this for days on end and not be fatigued at all. The riding position itself is very familiar to me from my GS. I’d say that the handlebars are nice and wide. It gives you lots of leverage makes it very easy to control. It’s quite a tall bike you get a great view of the cars in front. Actually I don’t feel like I’m going to drop the bike and it doesn’t feel particularly heavy but certainly, I’m not flat-footed. I’m five foot eight the thousands got the same bond or mirrors that the 650s got and like.
They absolutely work a treat you can see acres of stuff behind you brilliant for situational awareness. They might not be the prettiest looking mirrors but I haven’t said that I have seen worse but they certainly work well. This bike has a few electronic changes over it is small and the fancy Bosch lean angle. It’s got an immersive inertial measurement unit and IMU which does the whole five axes thing. The bike is pointing out in all axes and adjusts the ABS accordingly. Theoretically, you can give it a hand for a brake warrior in a corner. I’m not going to test that but I trust that it works and this bar also has a manually adjustable screen. You can do on the floor you just have to sort of taking the tension off the screen. Then move it sits upright or close to me position there up if you take the tension off you can actually move it. There you go and that’s in the fully upright position although I think with it flat like that I’m going to get some table spilling off the top.
I’m going to a faster road and just see what this is like from a wind protection point of view. You’re on a dual carriageway or on a faster road now. Let’s see what she’s like from our wind protection point of view. I’ve got the screen in the full-back position now and I’m doing a pretty good job of wind protection. Absolutely no wind buffet on my chest or arms at all there’s a big old fairing on the frontal area. The slightest of vibrations, on the top of my head, it’s not much at all and for a standard screen, I’d say that’s one of the better screens that I’ve riding on an adventure bike. Normally on adventure bikes, I would say you gonna have an aftermarket screen. I’ve certainly got one on my GS but it probably leaves what you’ve got on there. It’s not a problem at all and you can tuck down into a completely calm bubble. It’s very quick to get up to quick speeds on this without realizing it.
This engine really lovely it sounds great as well but as a motorway, this would be absolutely lovely sort of motorway speeds in Top Gear. I’m doing water and indicated 80 miles an hour and well it’s just sitting in its sweet spot. You could write like this all day long it’s lovely one of more reviews wouldn’t be complete without a white van in front of me. It’s bad to say it looks a bit old-school it looks a bit sort of nineteen seventies student stereo system. It’s got everything you need I mean it’s a decent fuel gauge got your speed it’s got the temperature. It’s pretty clear to read as well my eyes are failing at the best time. I’ve ever seen nice to see that we’ve got a charging point. Something that very useful on a bike that you do be doing long distances on. If you want to charge your phone up or whatever or get your sat-nav charged up. The brakes on the bike are absolutely superb the front one, in particular, is very very sharp indeed. The best brakes I’ve ridden with actually and that’s not exaggerating they feel brilliant want to get a chance.
I’ll give the backbreaker test as well as love the sound of this big ol v-twin. Unbelievable I was pulling one fits there it didn’t complain what top rider I am right nothing too close beyond. This just tries the bat break not brilliant but it’s not bad either. It’s about on par with other batbrakes of used. I hate these hemel hempstead traffic lights there are some of the worst ones in the country. They’re always red and they take about an hour to change right. We’ve escaped the traffic lights this v-strom has really surprised me. I have to say they bite that didn’t get loads of fanfare when they came out. You don’t hear much about them but it’s just very little not to like about it.
