We have the Suzuki drz400s sport bike the supermoto that’s what the SM stands for. It’s based on the Suzuki drz400s the dirtbike version. Obviously, this has been modified from the factory to be on the road. You can tell tires wheels the suspension as well you can’t tell. The suspension is built for the road, not for the dirt, it’s got a 398 cc single-cylinder do. We’ll ever head came with cool the engine five-speed constant mesh gearbox. It’s got a 300 mil disc up front with a dual-piston caliper and a 240 meal. In the rear with a single-piston caliper. Let’s say single in the front meant dual the bike itself comes in two colors.

Here in Canada this lovely grey and it comes in the white as well. It should be a good bike for a crappy day, today the weather is not very good. So perfect weather for the supermoto so we’ll see how she goes we’ll get on the bike here. as soon as we get our safety briefing done and we’ll go from there. It’s pretty light it’s got a ton of power for a bike. I remember last year the mirror visibility wasn’t all that great. Looks like the mirrors the exact same today and we’ll go from there. Anyways we’ll get on the bike here and start it up. Hopefully, we’ll get the footage this time boys and girls. The Suzuki at drz 400 SM finally been waiting for this freaking bike all day long. The positions are a little bit awkward from the other bikes I’ve been riding today. We’ll see how she goes I am very much looking forward to this bike.

I love the super Moto’s let’s do this so we got all the modes. We don’t have any real engine modes. This bike is basically no-frills no traction control no ABS none of that fancy jazz. There’s so little stuff they have to put trip A and trip B both on the same gauge. Just some indicator lights and your speedo so we will see how the supermoto handles. Actually I know how it handles pretty good for a supermoto. It’s a very fun bike to ride I remember from last year I didn’t get any good footage last year’s ride. Well, I did just got corrupted so obviously the supermoto it’s going to be very dirt bike in style. It looks like a dirt bike that’s built for the street and suspension is very soft.  Like I said it’s a supermoto it’s supposed to be soft. No surprise the supermodel handles these bumps in the road with ease. You can barely feel some of these ones that when I was on the s1000 in the GSXR 750 that were quite bumpy. It’s going to quickly adjust this mirror so we can check visibility.

We’ll see visibility it’s okay I lose about half the mirrors and my elbows. You can buy extensions to bring these mirror bits more so riding position and comfort is what you expect from a supermoto. It’s not the most comfortable bike out there but it does the job. It is what you expect you don’t buy a supermoto thinking you’re going to get a luxurious ride. Like you do on a Boulevard or the performance that you get out of a GSXR 1000. A very specific style of riding and the supermoto drz 400 sm does a fantastic job. So far I do have to pin the throttle to keep up with some of these guys. There is SV 650 up ahead of me here and of course the boulevard.

The supermoto does handle pretty nicely for a dirt bike I mean a supermoto it’s not a dirt bike but considering the design of the bike. The bike handles pretty well it’s not awkward. It doesn’t kind of fumble into the corners or fumbles out it does a very good job. I thoroughly enjoy the drz 400 SM I did enjoy the ride on it last year. It does a great job and here in Canada supermoto options are quite limited. I believe Suzuki and KTM or Husqvarna whichever one they’re the only ones that offer a from factory built. Supermoto of course you can go out and buy the Yamaha and the Cowley’s and the Honda’s as well. You have to buy a conversion kit. You got a bi rim and you’re looking at spending another three thousand canadian dollars on a conversion kit to take your dirt bike from a dirt machine to a supermoto. If you want to do that be my guest or you can take a look at the DRC 400 SM and buy one right out of the box with warranty ready to go.

Now we’re going to be doing a fair bit of riding on this bike on the highway and through some construction which is great for this bike. This bike is kind of designed for more of those rough surfaces. Will be definitely going over some rough surfaces it curves. We’ll see how this machine handles so we’re kind of going through some construction here. I’m guessing there’s an accident or something up ahead but one thing I have noticed I’m in first gear. We got a bit of an incline here and I weigh about 230 pounds. I let off the clutch and just kind of cruise without putting any throttle up. The bike keeps going it isn’t any smooth by any means when it does but it has a little bit of torque. A little bit in the low end so as I mentioned earlier the drz 400 SM has a 5-speed gearbox.

There are people out there that are making changes to it making it a 6-speed.  It gives you a little bit more off on the freeway on the highway. It does a decent job with five speeds I don’t really have any issues with the group. These guys aren’t riding like hooligans or anything like that.  Once we get out on the highway freeway section here. The speed is a little bit higher see how well it is but I guarantee you will be bouncing off the rev limiter. A little bit trying to keep up with these guys but it’s a demo ride that’s what we’re supposed to do right. The throttle pin wide-open rev limiter and slow it down and there you go so by no means is this going to be your performance bike.
